简介：The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 1945年6月，苏军开始了远东战役的军事部署。为搞清日军的防御情况，远东情报部派特遣队深入石头庙要塞，摸清要塞的秘密地下军火库——传说中的“狼穴”。特遣队奉命出发，秘密潜入石头庙要塞附近，与当地情报员何尚取得了联系。何尚在这一带工作多年，对石头庙的情况非常熟悉。由于有岗峰煤矿矿长的身份作为掩护，何尚深得当地宪兵队分队长田上大藏的信任。据何尚报告，宪兵队与当地驻军136旅团关系紧张，摩擦不断。获此情报，特遣队兵分两路，一边寻找“狼穴”图纸，一边设法接近要塞，寻找敌人的防卫漏洞。然而，日军防范严密。特遣队队员木日图、杜刚随何尚第一次到货场侦察情况，因四周戒备森严，难以接近而告失败。第一次侦察失败后，日军对二龙山一个废弃多年的采石场还施以重兵把手这个情况引起了张飞虎和何尚的怀疑。何尚煞费苦心，利用采石场能挖掘出黄金为由，说通利欲熏心的分队长田上大藏插手采石场，进一步挑拨宪兵队与136旅团之间的矛盾，伺机接近采石场，实施侦察。但当安哲民率领特遣队员再次化装成日军，利用公路上运送日军物资的卡车进入了要塞的地下工事后，发现这个 巨大 山洞只是储存生活用品的仓库，真正储存军火的“狼穴”仍然没有找到。接连两次的失手让特遣队决定改从狼穴的施工人员打开突破口。可这一方案刚一开始，特遣队就中了日军的圈套。为此，张飞虎、安哲民和杜刚被捕。庆幸的是，张飞虎、安哲民、杜刚在牢房里面巧遇了外号“万能钥匙”的神偷黄风。在何尚的营救下，张飞虎等人被救出监狱后，就开始说服黄风，配合行动。黄风的积极配合和136旅团机枪连连长祁国峰提供的线索，帮特遣队找到了攻破“狼穴”秘密的 缺口 。很快，特遣队员就在日军土谷将军家里起获了“狼穴”的秘密图纸，有机枪连连长祁国峰的率部起义和黄风的积极配合，特遣队员进入地下工事，探得秘密军火库及其内部布防情况，一举端掉“狼穴”，为苏军展开远东战役打响了胜利的第一枪。
